As this painting of lush vegetative forms developed, Cano felt his “imagination went rampant” – with a rush of inspiration sending his painting “out of control”. The work seemed to hardly cohere, even when epoxied, owing to uncontrollable brushstrokes. To contain it he turned to placing red triangles at two corners, stabilizing the whole composition. Above all, it is three-dimensional and thus photographs “cannot do it justice”. Like an earlier Cosmos painting, “it has to be seen to enjoy it further” so that the nuances of color merges and energetic switchbacks can be fully appreciated. It gives the impression, nonetheless, of a surging life-force characterizing the cosmos.
