I was born and raised in Moda, a suburb on the Asian side of Istanbul, and a particularly enchanting, fascinating, and idyllic place. During the day Moda was a resort like San Tropez. At night it became a humming Latin dance mecca. The lights, scintillating off the Byzantine mosaics and Ottoman tiles, surrounded the area with an eerie color panorama. This is the famous quay where people promenaded and exchanged furtive looks with each other.
