Opus 264, “Kate’s Choice”

$950

In two distinct ways this painting stands alone. It is isolated and free of any accompanying details that situate and/or contextualize other still-life compositions. With its black background and similarly dark frame it allows—on reflection—for its melancholy overtones. The vase retains a slender white bridal-gown motif, at odds with a few falling leaves and several fading petals below. Wide-open flowers appear ready to drop their older parts, so that Cano recognizes the theme of “transitions,” in personal lives as well as the cycles of nature.
