Opus 412, “Moments”

At the outset, Cano painted geometric blocks that were linked together as a potential background – restricted to black/grey/white tonalities of the minimalist spectrum.  After a year his inspiration led him ‘to create an acrylic skin’ that featured ‘a burgundy or dark red element’ – boldly distributed within a 3-D central motif enlivened by a painterly energy.

Moments of emphasis on its moving surfaces form lively counterpoints to the flat, highly-structured backdrop.  With its perfectly co-ordinated frame of silvery grey and shades of deep-slate, it lives up to the artist’s recognition that it turned out to look “good from any angle, any side”.
