Opus 432, “Variations – II”


A rhythmic twosome of fish-like forms float back-and-forth, contrasted with warm+cool tones (mainly burnt sienna below and Cano’s favorite blue above). ‘Elements are not independent of each other’ he maintains. Above all he shows how he benefits from those new materials for acrylic painters. ‘If colorists, ‘like Van Gogh and the more classic painters, had been here now, they would be using these new, innovative materials. I want to absorb energy now…Of some people I see their aura and imbibe [it]; there is a flow’ as here, with ‘a safer frame choice, the floater frame’.
