Opus 433, “Variations III”

The striking pattern in this set of variations creates a rhythmic design that floats atop a detached background finely-painted in pure cadmium yellow. Everything is adjusted to scale, with independent ‘clusters’ of acrylic paint resonating above each other in contrapuntal fashion. At the edges are ‘points of transition’ to the 3-D frame, a marvelous effect! Cano notes ‘it’s all innovation, until the painting tells you when to stop’.
