This subject occupied Cano’s attention on successive occasions, each time featuring the likeness of a young female dancer used as the object of extremely bold color combinations that challenged the canons of Impressionism and early Modernism. With shades of purple and green (as body & background hues) he shifted attention toward an array of multi-colored blooms that stretch across her narrow hips and echo within a thin crowning garland. She may be presumably be designated as The Dancer (still not properly a ballerina) being such a reserved adolescent. One might speculate that she is here posed as a model whose role is to reveal Cano’s endless technical innovations. Yet bathed in tones of purple et.al. her look is extraordinary.
